Old Sand Mill Song Theme For Disney TV Pilot!

An original song by alt folk rock band and Hitt Music Group artist, Old Sand Mill (on OSM Records/BMI Music Int), has been commissioned by Disney TV and SSTV. The complete fun and Beatles-like tune, "Too Much Fun," appears on the end credits along with a sing along lyric scroll, on the official television pilot for the new kid's weekly educational series, "The Sun Show." The song, heard each week, features Old Sand Mill singer/songwriters Chip Miller and Michael Reynolds, as well as guest artists, mulitple Grammy winner Jerry Douglas from Alison Krauss & Union Station, Darry Jones of The Rolling Stones, the legendary Brian Wilson, r&b icon Deniece Williams, Gabe Witcher from Van Morrison and Beck's band, Karl Preusser from The String Quartet, and Earl Mankey formerly of Concrete Blonde. The song can be heard in it's entirety on Hitt Music Group as well as on their site at MySpace.com/OldSandMillriends. It can also be seen and heard, along with a mini-video, at the website for "The Sun Show" at www.sunsafetyforkids.org.

Chip Miller, singer/writer and guitarist for Old Sand Mill, and a longtime MTV/MTV2/VH-1/BET and CMT music video director, wrote the teleplay for the series and directed and co-produced for Disney. The show has already won two prestigious educational video awards, and copies of the longer classroom version have been distributed by the EPA to every elementary school in America!

  1. Old Sand Mill's debut album, "The World Is Getting Colder" has just been released by SHP Records/Universal Music/Brain Muscle Media and BMI Music. The CD hits retail stores in late March (Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Starbucks, etc.), but is now available on-line in all the major store links – iTunes, Amazon Music, ReverbNation, etc. After writing a theme song, "Too Much Sun" for a Disney TV series last year, the band - basically Chip Miller, a successful filmmaker/screenwriter/music video director, and singer/songwriter and musician, along with his bandmate, Janaki, a multi-talented composer and musician - commenced work on their ambitious and critically received CD. Over a year in the making, and recorded in London, Nashville, NYC, and LA, Old Sand Mill took an old school, almost analog approach to their first full-length album. Chip called on a host of his famous friends he had directed MTV and VH-1 music videos for, like Darryl Jones of The Rolling Stones, Jerry Douglas of Alison Krauss & Union Station, the legendary Brian Wilson, r&b icon Deniece Williams, Earle Mankey of Concrete Blonde, and many more) asking if they would guest on his band's CD. Lucky for listeners and fans of this surging underground, indie band, they all said yes. While still recording and mixing the album, they sent out an EP of advance tracks to their agent in LA who in turn sent the EP out to a few labels and distributors. Before very long, the band was picked was picked up by SHP Records/Universal Music and signed a publishing deal with BMI Music International. In release just one week, here are two advance reviews:

Billboard International wrote: “SHP Records/Universal Music intriguing new artist, Old Sand Mill, an alternative folk rock Brit-influenced band comprised of Coachella Valley songwriters/musicians Chip Miller and Janaki, has made an impressive debut with their ambitious and beautiful new album, “The World Is Getting Colder.” The songs are catchy, edgy, hypnotic, acid-like trippy, gorgeous, silly, deep, spiritual, haunting, sad, happy, scary, full of warning, loss, and in the end – simple and bittersweet hope for peace and love. This is worth a listen. Perhaps we need a little more John Lennon and Ghandi in this cold new technological world of isolation and disconnect.”

    The Music Connection wrote:
“If you dig Crosby, Stills & Nash, Donovan, Yes, Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys, and Simon & Garfunkel, with a dash of Beck and Radiohead, then you will dig Old Sand Mill’s debut work, ‘The World Is Getting Colder.’ This well-produced album pays homage to a wide range of classic and contemporary influences and dares to move effortlessly from one genre to another, with fun and intriguing original tunes penned by singer/songwriter and longtime film and music video director Chip Miller, along with his decades younger band mate, Janaki, a multi-talented musician and composer. They are joined by some incredible, well known backing musicians, and numerous guest artists like the iconic Brian Wilson, as well as multi-Grammy winners Jerry Douglas (Alison Krauss & Union Station), Darryl Jones of The Rolling Stones, r&b legend Deneice Williams, the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, and many more. This one’s worth the journey, people. It’s like going to the movies through the spell of song. MS says check it out.”

Old Sand Mill's "The World Is Getting Colder" is now available on iTunes, Amazon Music, ReverbNation, and other major download and purchasing links. 2012.
